Lovely kandy

 


Kandy, encircled by a ring of mountains and draped in a veil of mist, is not merely a city; it is a feeling close to the soul. The rhythmic sound of the Hevisi drums from the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, blending with the cool breeze of the hill country, brings an indescribable sense of tranquility to the mind. The pride of the royal era and the beauty of ancient architecture still live on through the streets of Kandy, constantly captivating my heart.

The serenity felt while walking along the Kandy Lake circular road and the floral splendor of the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens are the true blessings of nature within the city. When the city lights up during the Esala Perahera festival, it becomes a mirror reflecting the Sri Lankan identity to the entire world. This environment, intertwined with the flowing rhythm of the Mahaweli River, is a magnificent masterpiece of nature that goes far beyond being just a city.






The friendliness and hospitality of the people of Kandy further intensify the value of my beloved city. Every moment spent in this hallowed land, from school days until today, is filled with cherished memories. No matter where I go or where I am, hearing the name "Kandy" evokes a sense of immense respect and love, much like the affection felt for a mother.

I’m writing about something I never even thought I would write.

 Yes, that’s true. I never even dreamed that I would feel like writing something like this. But because of a journey I once went on, I felt the urge to write this. What I am talking about is a religion, or rather, a belief. I prefer to call it a belief rather than a religion, because to follow a religion one must be a devoted follower of it. But to believe in something, I think devotion alone is enough. I am a Buddhist. But quite unexpectedly, I got the chance to visit a  church. That was the Marawila Kurusa Church. Having never been to a church before, I felt a strange sensation when I went there. Was it emptiness? Was it mystery? I have no idea. But it was a very beautiful feeling. I felt that sensation for the very first time in my life. Yet, at the same time, I felt as though that unfamiliar feeling was somehow familiar. I don’t know why.
